The AKC (American Kennel Club) dog show in Chickasha, OK....November 13-16, 2008...

November 11, 2008

I'll be there ..... hope to see you there too.  Chickasha is a short drive just south of Oklahoma City.  The "show" will be at the Grady County Fairgrounds...it's inside so the weather is not a factor.   Some 1,200 hundred dogs of all different breeds will be represented.  It's a great way to see all that "dogs" have to offer us.

The American Veterinary Chiropractic Association Convention...

November 11, 2008

It was held north of the Atlanta, Georgia at Lake Lanier....beautiful lodge and great scenery.  The convention was jam-packed with hours of educational presentations.   We learned from the best of the best.   Classes included "labs" where we studied horses and dogs gaits and forms of treatments.  It was very enjoyable and highly motivational.

New Dog "patient" today

August 27, 2008

A desparate woman arrived at the office today with her eight year old small breed dog....the dog had two injuries from jumping from considerable heights.  Both these injuries occurred when the dog was a puppy.   Both injuries required surgical intervention.

In addition to the dog having a great degree of difficulty just getting into the standing position from sitting and laying, the dog had a heart condition, allergies, etc.... The new puppy at home is trying to play but the elder dog is showing little interest.

With my examination, I found lower back and upper back dysfunctions and the dog attempted to get away from the softest degree of touch.   I treated the dog.  Almost immediately, the dog was playing with the owner and the owner stated that the dog was really behaving differently....and that she had not seen her play in a very long time...what a great result!

This is one of the most satisfying parts of my "job".....it really energizes me and makes my entire week and month.

OKC American Kennel Club Dog Show

July 2, 2008

I spent last weekend at the dog show treating injured dogs and meeting folks unfamiliar with animal chiropractic.  The show is a wonderful opportunity for the public to learn about the individual dog breeds and to shop for dog specialty products.   In the case of animal chiropractic at the dog show, the dog's owners access treatment for the dog to improve the dog's movement and stance.   Most owners see that the dog is not moving correctly and want treatment to help the dog.   Some dogs growl, snap or yelp in response to a touch that is painful...as when the owner lifts the dog.  Other dogs tuck their bottom and tail under further or they don't stride out with the forelegs.

I treated three bull mastiffs-two had fallen off grooming tables and injured there necks and shoulders...one bull mastiff, Luther went on to Best of Breed after I worked with his shoulder....this improved his gait.   Luther's story is amazing from the beginning.  His owner, Barb, brought him to me one year ago with the hope that Luther would feel better...she was concerned because he had no energy, no drive and did not play.   He became a "new dog" after the initial treatment and has...

The Four Pups We Rescued

June 10, 2008

We found these four pups at the Expo Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma. We think one of the ropers at an event on Saturday dumped the pups. We were able to find homes for two of them and the other two have been placed with a foster home. If you are looking for a great pup . . .the two male dogs need a forever home... here you go. Check out the link below at see the pups.

Email from one of the families that adopted one the the four

Joey is her name.  She did very well last night.  Brandi worked with her
walking around on her leash.  She was doing well.
She made friends with my Aussie pup.  She also met the kittens.  She liked
the kittens.  They were rubbing all over her while she sat in Brandi's lap.
She didn't know what to think of the horses.  She growled at them a little
but was not aggressive.  I think she was just a little scared.

Brandi is so excited to have a puppy.  She was still smiling when she went
to bed last night!  : )

Thank you!

National Agility Trials in Tulsa, OK this year!

March 26, 2008

In March this year, I was the doc for the dogs at the National Agility Trials held in Tulsa.   This was a four day event.  The dog competitors and their owner/handlers came from all over the United States to compete.  It was great fun.  I met so many great folks and their dogs.
